Karla says this is me:).... hmmmm

Andrea Bliss makes hurdling look easy at our recent NCAA Eastern Regional Championships...

Do you know which
one of these guys wrote
the book on their event? Can you guess WHO was a thrower?
The answers may surprise you.... it's
at the bottom of this page!
Although they seem to be clowning around... one of these athletes won the Olympic Gold and a Silver in the discus.  Which one? The answer is at the bottom of this page!

NCAA WOMEN'S DISCUS!
Rachel & Dore'

2002 CHAMPION: Chaniqua Ross, UCLA senior  - She threw 182-0 to win last year's NCAA title by one inch over Nebraska freshman Becky Breisch. Her personal best is 188-6.

Rachel and Dore' are ready to represent
the Gators in the Discus!

Although Ms. Ross would have qualified in the outdoor shot put, she elected to pass that opportunity, apparently in an effort to focus on the discus. I don't blame her at all. Chaniqua has her hands full with Stephanie Brown (who beat her for the H.S. Cal State Championship) and Becky Breisch who owns the longest throw this year. Florida's own Rachel Longfors threw over 180 in the driving rain this weekend and looks destined for more!  Dore' is so excited about her first NCAA, she may surprise a lot of people, too!

By the way, Steph was a high school teammate of mine. :)  Counting in Arizona's Sean Shields, there are three of us from the same high school competing in the NCAA throws.  I don't think that happens very often.

The answer is BOTH! On the left is Dick Fosbury who revolutionized the high jump with what has been called the 'Fosbury Flop" On the right is former shot put world record holder Al Feuerbach who set a new standard in the glide technique. Sometimes it's hard to get a serious picture, but the man on the right is none other than Olympian "Multiple Mac"  Mac Wilkins, who still owns one of the best-- if not the best-- triples of all time in the shot, discus and javelin!

SPECIAL THANKS to Mike "Coach Rodney" Louisiana (NCAA Discus Champ 1971) for supplying these wonderful current pictures of three track legends.
